Top 6 Ways to Make Your Video Ads/Posts Pop on Social Media

Effective video ads and posts on social media can seem impossibly tricky to produce yet their benefits are ever alluring. Though social media began as a way for people to connect with their friends and others, in the past 10 years it has become one of the best places for companies who want to influence or persuade their consumer base. On top of this, social media giants such as Facebook have proven that there are concrete benefits to social media advertising that is more personal for consumers than more traditional methods thus leading them to trust your brand more.

However, when making video ads, it can feel frustrating to know just how to optimize them for social media. While a company serious about their marketing should always hire a professional videographer, you should always also follow these 6 tips below to ensure your customer has the best videos possible.

1. Have Subtitles in Your Videos

Many people browsing social media are unable to listen to audio. This is because those who are either browsing at work or on a commute and will have their phone’s audio off, causing them to not hear the sound from videos. However, this does not mean that people dislike watching engaging ads, especially if they’re targeted for their location.

In fact, there is a much higher chance of people sticking around to watch your entire ad if it is accessible with subtitles. This also helps people who are hard of hearing be able to engage with your ad, making it more inclusive overall.

2. Either Be Concise or Be Long

As you probably already know, advertising can be a tricky business that is dependent on many different factors. Whereas on more traditional forms of advertising (i.e. television) the length of the ad doesn’t matter due to people being tuned into a specific channel, ad length on social media is everything. This is why we recommend either being incredibly concise or long. Both types of ads can go viral, but ads that are somewhere in the middle are not as successful.

3. Create Curiosity for the Full Ad

This might seem counterproductive to a good advertisement, but this is a great technique for social media. If you post only a small clip of your advertisement, you have a higher chance of catching a user’s attention and getting them to click through to watch the full ad. For example, if your advertisement ends in a dance party, you should post a few seconds of the dance party portion to get people interested in watching the entire ad.

4. Keep the Viewer Guessing

In our modern day and age, advertisements that are able to be subversive always seem to go viral. One way of subverting the tradition is to make an ad that does not seem to be about anything. The lack of identifying product will make the viewer curious, causing them to watch until the end to reveal what your commercial is actually advertising for.

5. Ask the Viewer Questions

If someone is scrolling through social media with their volume turned on, they will likely hear the beginning question of your ad. This will cause them to be curious, subsequently clicking through and watching the entire advertisement!

6. Do an Emotional Reveal

It’s very easy to take products for granted, making it important to remind consumers of the roles certain products play in their lives. Commercials that symbolize how important these roles can be through a slow, emotional reveal often tug at heart strings, making them ideal for going viral.
