5 Tips for Taking Care of Your iPhone

An iPhone is an expensive — yet so fragile device. Many people only dream of owning one, and now that you do, comes the hard part which is taking care of it.

I don’t know about you, but I like keeping my property for as long as I can and in the best condition possible. For most people, the damage or loss of a cell phone can be described as a heartbreaking experience. It is, therefore, necessary to protect your phone as much as you can. This article gives five simple tips on how to take care of your iPhone.

1. Re-calibrate the battery.

For many people, it is a struggle to make their batteries last all day. You need to manage it well; otherwise, you’ll just be carrying a useless piece of hardware with you all day.

Re-calibrating your iPhone’s battery helps it to drain slower hence more usage time. When re-calibrating, drain the battery to 0% or till the phone shuts down. Plug-in the device while still off and leave for about 2 hours, then switch it back on to confirm it’s fully charged. If so, unplug it, and you’re good to go. It sounds easy, right?

You should also turn off your phone at least once or twice a week to avoid wearing of the battery. The battery dies faster when the device is used 24/7 because even when idle, cellular services and other background processes are still running.

Turning off WI-FI and Bluetooth when not in use is another way of preserving charge on the battery. When one or both of these are on, even when not in use, they drain the battery.

2. Clean your iPhone.

It sounds easy, but if not done right, you could end up damaging your device. An iPhone has a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic-oil-repellant coating that could get damaged when in contact with certain cleaning products.

To clean it safely, unplug all cables and turn it off, then use a slightly damp, lint-free cloth. If the unwanted material is still present, dip the lint-free cloth in warm soapy water while avoiding getting moisture into the openings.

3. Cover it

This should be the first thing you do after purchasing your iPhone. Cell phone covers are relatively inexpensive (some go for as little as $5) but offer excellent protection. A hardcover reduces the risk of cracks, scratches, and helps to curb the dust that might get into your device.

If you do not want to sacrifice the stylish look of the iPhone by the use of a full-body cover, I recommend a screen protector. Screen protectors fit directly over the screen and are hardly noticeable. They protect the screen from scratches and cracks in case the phone drops accidentally.

4. Keep it away from moisture and heat.

Extreme temperatures pose a great risk not only to the battery but also to other hardware. You should always keep your phone away from heat sources like stoves, furnaces, and direct sunlight.

Cell phones can be damaged by even slight dampness. You should keep your iPhone dry at all times and avoid putting it near any body of water. Also, it would be best if you don’t take any liquids near it to avoid spillage. In case it gets wet, dry using an absorbent towel.

5. Protect it from theft

An iPhone, being valuable, is subject to theft, and it is your job to keep it safe. After all, you wouldn’t like to see your hard-earned money and prized possessions go down the drain, would you?

iPhones have various security features like the fingerprint scanner (for newer models) and device tracking capabilities. All these protect not only your phone but also the data stored in it. These features should all be activated upon purchase.

These are just a few tips on how to properly take care of your iPhone. If you follow them, you’re sure to enjoy the experience of owning an iPhone fully.
