4 Ways to Store Furniture During a Home Remodel

If you are in the process of planning a home remodeling project, you might be wondering what you are going to do with your furniture in the meantime. After all, all of your furniture and home decor can really get in the way when you’re trying to tackle a major renovation. Luckily, you do have a few different options.

1. Work on Rooms One at a Time

One option is to simply work on your rooms one room at a time. Then, you can move furniture from the room that you are going to be working on and can put it in other areas of the home. This can be a convenient option since you don’t have to worry about figuring out other arrangements for your furniture. Plus, for those who are remodeling on a budget, tackling one room at a time can help you budget your remodeling costs rather than having to pay for an entire renovation at one time. Some people, particularly those who are doing their renovations themselves, also find that things are less overwhelming this way, and it can be a good way to minimize disruptions in your home during the remodeling process as well.

2. Rent a Storage Pod

One popular option for storing furniture and other items during your home remodeling project is to rent a storage pod. Basically, you can choose from pods of varying sizes, and you can have one or more delivered to your home. “You can them use this storage pod as a type of outdoor storage building where you can place all of your furnishings and other items,” said SMARTBOX. You shouldn’t have to worry about your items while they are in one of these pods, since the pod should keep your items safe against the elements and should be lockable. Plus, if you find that you don’t have enough room to store everything, you can simply have another storage container delivered to your home. This can be a great way to get everything out of your house so that you can be prepared for your remodeling project.

3. Use a Storage Unit

If you like the idea of getting all of your furniture and other belongings out of your home for your remodeling project, another option that you can look into is renting a storage unit. This can be a bit less convenient than having a pod delivered to your home, since you have to worry about transporting your items to the storage unit and then bringing them back to your home. However, if you don’t have space for an outdoor storage pod — such as if you live in a condo or just have a tiny lawn — or if you otherwise don’t want to or can’t have a storage pod brought to your location, such as if your homeowners association doesn’t allow it or if you are worried about your lawn being damaged, then a storage unit can be another good option. One added bonus is that you can leave certain items in your storage unit rather than bringing them back home if you’d like to declutter, such as by leaving behind seasonal clothing or holiday decorations.

4. Push to the Middle of the Room

For minor remodeling projects, you might be able to simply push your furniture to the middle of the room that you are working in. Then, you can cover up your items with sheets or plastic sheeting to protect them. This isn’t necessarily an ideal method, and you do have to worry about your items potentially getting in the way or being damaged. However, you might find that it’s a good solution if you are working on a rather small, minor project, such as if you are only working in part of the room.

As you can see, there are various ways that you can deal with your furniture and other belongings during your home remodel. Then, you can focus on your remodeling project without worrying about furniture being in the way or being damaged in the process.
