How to Get Motivated for a Group Workout

Working out is so important to your everyday life. You get to live your best life when you spend at least 150 minutes per week being active, but you do your body a bigger favor when you spend more time working out. It’s good for your mind, for your body, and it’s good for your soul. A workout can improve your mood, it can change the way you look at your body, and it provides you with more confidence than you ever had. All you need to remember is working out can be fun, and one way it can be more fun is if you’re working out in a group workout.

If you’re apprehensive about joining a group workout program, you’re not alone. Many people feel they don’t have what it takes, they don’t have the coordination, or they don’t know where to start. It’s all right to feel this way, but it’s also important you know you can motivate yourself to work out in a group program and actually have a little fun in the process.

Remember the Accountability

If you’re not sure you have the motivation to join a group workout one day, remember that they are your accountability partners. They see you working out, and they see you when you’re not working out. They can motivate you like no one else by being there for you to motivate you and get you excited about exercise. Let them be your partners.

Remember You’re Not Alone

If you feel silly in a group exercise class because you don’t feel coordinated or you don’t have the same experience as others, remember that you are not alone. Not everyone in your Zumba class is a great dancer. Not everyone in your yoga class is a professional. You’re all different, you all have different skill levels, and you’re all learning the art of whatever exercise you’re in the middle of doing. Don’t let your insecurities get in the way of you having a good time in a group class.

Bring a Friend

A group exercise class can be intimidating to some if you don’t know anyone, so bring a friend. Call your mom or bring your neighbor to yoga with you. Dance with some of your girlfriends at the next Zumba class. If you have someone there for you for the moral support, you’re going to find your class is a lot easier for you to manage and handle. You’ve got this, and your friend can help you get this.

Set A Goal

It’s so easy to feel unmotivated when you haven’t any goals. If you want to motivate yourself to get up and get to that group class, get some motivation and make it happen. If you can find a goal, you can find the motivation. What do you want from this class? Do you want more confidence in a stronger body, to lose weight, to get fit before your upcoming tropical vacation? Do you want to get healthier or feel better each day? Whatever you want, write it down. Now break it down into smaller goals you can accomplish each week.

Each time you cross a small goal off your list, you feel so much more accomplished. If that small goal is to attend three group exercise classes per week, it helps motivate you to get up and go. You don’t want to disappoint yourself at the end of the week by missing out on crushing your goals. Cross them off, make them happen, and watch your life improve dramatically.

Group exercise is a lot more fun that individual exercise for many. Dance classes, weightlifting classes, yoga, Pilates, and spinning are a few examples of group exercise classes you can attend. If you’re worried about looking silly, don’t worry about that. Remember that by attending these classes you are improving your body, limiting your health problems, and you’re even preventing certain health problems from ever being a problem in your life. Get motivated to work out by getting up and going. The more you do it the easier it is for you to continue to get up and do it.
