5 Ways Natural Oils Can Benefit Your Life

Natural oils, also known as essential oils, have been used for thousands of years in homeopathic medicine. Today, they are experiencing a boom in popularity as people search for alternatives to traditional medications for their health and well-being. Here are 5 ways natural oils can benefit your life:

Aromatherapy

Natural oils can be used in aromatherapy treatment to help with a number of ailments including insomnia and depression. During aromatherapy, natural oils are used in diffusers (a fine mist sprayed into the air), rolled onto the wrist or pulse points or mixed with water and sprayed on linens or furniture. The smells can be calming or invigorating – depending on the oil used.

Allergies

Use natural oils to help combat allergies. Peppermint oil can help relieve the cough and headaches of seasonal allergies. Basil oil can kill yeast and mold that cause coughing and wheezing. Eucalyptus oil can help with airflow and is also an expectorant.

Muscle Aches and Pains

An opiod epidemic has caused doctors to crack down on prescribing pain medications. People fearing addiction to the opiods prescribed are looking for alternative ways to handle pain. Essential oils can help relieve pain and aches. Try rubbing peppermint oil on temples and the base of the neck for instant relief from headaches and migraines. Sinus pressure can cause tremendous pain and pressure around the eyes. Peppermint oil will immediately open up the sinuses, relieving the pressure that causes the pain.

Rosemary oil can be rubbed on topically to relieve soreness in muscles and joints. Use juniper oil in the bathtub to help with the pain and itching of hemorrhoids. Just sit and soak in the water for about 20 minutes.

Depression and Anxiety

Political unrest, job stresses, marriage break-ups and teenagers are all reasons for people to be depressed or anxious. We live in an uncertain society where people ‘snap’ all of the time. Anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications have huge sales margins due to the demand of these medications. However, most of the depression and anxiety symptoms can be controlled and helped with natural oils.

Using Lavender oil in a diffuser or applied topically can be beneficial because it causes a calming effect. Simply roll some on your wrist or dab it behind your ears when you feel stress building up. Lavender also helps with sleep disturbances, a side-effect of anxiety.

Veviter Oil helps with the jitteriness and is very calming. Ylang Ylang helps the body to feel more cheery. It uplifts and makes people feel less agitated and nervous.

Footbaths, hand massages and scalp rubs, and diffusers filled with these natural oils can be very beneficial to people who suffer from depression and anxiety.

Energy

Are you sluggish after lunch? Do you run out of energy as soon as you sit in your chair after a long day at the office? Most people find themselves tired and weary after working. Stressful situations can also sap your energy, leaving you depressed and drained.

Natural oils can help restore your energy. Mix a few drops of peppermint oil in water for an instant pick-me-up. Simply smelling lemon oil or lemongrass oil will give you a little more pep. These oils and others like grapefruit or rosemary and eucalyptus have been shown to increase oxygen to the brain, causing people to feel energized. The next time you feel like your energy is depleted, don’t reach for a cup of coffee or an energy drink. Simply sniff some lemon oil or roll on some eucalyptus. You could even add lemon, rosemary or peppermint oil to your water to feel revitalized.

Natural oils have so many benefits. Try these and then find more uses for these wonderful oils in your home and with your mental and physical health.
